Tips for pruning your inner garden…
Last summer we decided to clean up our front garden since it had become over grown with bushes that were too cramped for the area. One of the plants, an evergreen which had likely been there since the house was built 30 years previous, proved most difficult to remove. We chopped it down, and then a friend tied his truck to the remaining stump and attempted to drive away in hopes of pulling the root out. But Steve and his Ford F150, pedal to the metal, could not get the root to budge, so until we get a root digger to chop it out, it will remain. The most interesting thing about the plant is this…. although it has been hacked bare to only about a foot of height, the plant has started growing new foliage. There are fresh green shoots appearing, even though I thought the plant had died.
The reason I’m telling you about the plant is not to brag about my non-existent green thumb. It’s because chopping down plants can be a lot like chopping down health problems – until you get to the root you still have the problem– it will come back in some way or another, and you will never really know how far it goes down until you really do some digging.
Some of our ongoing problems and ailments have roots that go deep into the past, and only true healing will remove the origin of a problem so that it doesn’t return. This means getting down to the root which is usually an emotional experience or trauma that continues to affect us even though we don’t realize it. Some roots have gone so deep into our subconscious that we do not realize they are even there, but they continue to have an effect – attracting like experiences into our lives or causing illness and dis-ease. Other roots we are aware of and we know that they continue to impact us, but we can’t pull them out no matter what we try.
The other day I was jogging through the woods and I was shocked by the number of trees I had to hurdle because they had been struck by lightning and had fallen across the path. These trees were huge, but the thing that struck me the most was that the sheer force of the lightening was so impactful that it caused each of these trees to be completely uprooted.
Reiki can be like that. Reiki can shake the foundations of your very belief system – causing many a tree to uproot and subsequently decompose. This happened to a friend of mine. We spent about an hour and a half doing energy work on a problem she had when she was a child. My friend had many “trees” because of the problem – some of which she never told me about. In the course of one session, which focused on several bullying episodes, each of her trees uprooted. Her confidence increased and she was given new insight into her problems which disappeared with ease.
Ok – I’m not saying that Reiki works EVERY time like lightning, the very first time it’s used. Sometimes it takes a few sessions and maybe even a few years to fully get at a root, but that’s why it’s important to stick with the healing process and keep track of your healing goals. Each person heals at their own rate, one tree at a time.
I’ve never been the biggest advocate of chopping down trees, but if you wanna get to the root of a problem than hand me an ax. As for my front garden – I can’t wait to plant the seeds of new life!
